Simon Kong aka "Hard Lee"

While I have been Dj'ing for over 15 years, most of my time as a DJ has been as a event producer & production manager.
Two years ago I started a minimal techno club brand called "Kill Club". This is an urban club driven project which continues today.
In 2007 & 2008 I produced a Techno Music zone for Canaan Downs Festival called the .3rd Resistance.
Canaan Downs Festival was new years party in Nelson NZ.
For the 08/09 Festival I was the Festival Director coordinating the entire event. I had previously worked on the same site as the Canaan Downs Festival during the 90's on a party called the Gathering.
From 1996 to 2001 I worked in several roles for the event but was primarily focused on producing the "House Tent" which featured a line up of NZ best House Djs.
From 2001 to 2007 I lived in Queenstown, NZ and played regularly in many of the clubs and bars. Places like Surreal, Debajo and a notorious late night bar called Buff.
Throughout the past 15 years I have maintained a continued involvement in the outdoor dance scene. Playing at many underground parties all over the country.
When I first started Dj'ing rave & dance culture was a new thing in New Zealand. Many of the parties I played at were some of the first events of their kind in New Zealand.
These days dance culture is practically mainstream, however my roots in the music and the culture are strictly underground and my personal passion is for deeper styles of music.
In the last few years I have been playing a lot of minimal techno, however I have returned to my house music days of the mid 90's. So these days I mix a blend of minimal, techno & house.
Still after Dj'ing for over 15years there are so many influences and styles of music that I enjoy.
My radio show RADIO909 was a way to share my passion and interest in the diversity of dance music.
The theme and the thread for RADIO909 is the sound of the Roland TR909 drum machine. A machine which more or less is responsible for the Techno music we know today.
Over the years I have managed to play support for a few of my heros: Carl Craig, Ian Pooley & Dj Skurge to name a few, but primarily I keep my mixing on the down-low, out of the lights and glamour and deep in the underground where the music is all the matters.
